From time to time I read news that shakes me. Today, is one of those days. The BBC reports that Israel is preparing to cut off power to Palestinians in Gaza in order to halt missile attacks. To read that something as abhorrent as collective punishment is planned, and to imagine that it will likely go ahead without serious attempts to halt it from either American, Canadian or other Western or Asian authorities leaves me literally nauseous. How can such a demonisation of a human collectivity be tolerated? I want to vomit and cry. If this is an accepted way for humans to treat humans in this time, what kind of world will our little Kicker grow into? What horrifying possibilities are we permitting to encroach on our horizon? I hate to imagine. No matter the challenge, there must be a separation of the combatant and the civilian, the individual and the collective. Without these human society not only stagnates as possibility is strangled, but security, the basis of social sanity, is made to evaporate. Collective punishment is thus an attack not just on a particular group of people but on the infrastructure of peaceful and prosperous human society.

It's been two wonderful years since Tyler and I tied the knot. We got married at the Canadian embassy in Seoul on Mar. 14, 2005, and then our second one happened on the 20th of March, the same year at the Chosun Hotel in Seoul, and the last one was at the Kelowna Golf Club in Canada. All our weddings were so much fun! ;)

Our once little boy Kiban now weighs 9.6kg (maybe about 19-20 pounds??), and is 70cm tall. such a chubby healthy baby! :D
Mommy tried him in a sling, since carrying him in the bjorn baby carrier has been causing so much pain in her back. (Imagine carrying a 10 kg sandbag in your arm...)
However, Kiban doesn't seem to be enjoying the new method. :(

This is Kiban pooping. While this one was induced, later in the day he pooed seemingly on his own after a very satisfying feeding time with mommy.

Phew, that was a long time in waiting, but finally Kiban got some relief from the face tape that had annoyed him for so long. He tears at his oxygen tubes less now.

On the 10th Kiban received an enema to help him poo. As a result he pooed over 75g! Alot for a tiny guy. But there was still more left and his tummy was not comfortable. So another nice nurse gave Kiban a professional stomach massage.

This series of images was taken on July 28th, 4 days after Kiban began being fed little bits of milk through a cup. Obviously he is not satisfied with the means of transmission.

Now Kiban is still on 5ccs of mother's milk or "moyu" per feeding, drinking between 4 and 8 times a day depending on his appetite and digestive abilities.

Thinking of the Nice Nurse

After having his diaper changed twice, Kiban was the image of happiness. Perhaps it is related to his having begun to eat, still only 5cc/6hrs. But my guess is he was just thinking about the nice nurse. By the way, he broke 2400g today. Kiban is now 2410g.

Today Kiban drank 5cc of defrosted breast milk not once every 8 hours like yesterday, but once every 6 hours. He is still under 2400g but he is going to get bigger fast. From yesterday to today alone he grew 80g!
